A folded plane of ferrocement, adapted from an old metal shell.
Set in Jubilee Hills, Magari Hyderabad is an adaptive reuse project — an old metal structure stripped back to its true form, with the glass and ACP sheets of its original shell removed. The design began with the idea of a folded sheet of paper, its planes bending to create depth and void; those folds became the store's display windows, letting light glow in from outside and spotlighting the furniture within. Ferrocement was chosen to realise this — light, flexible, and finished in sand plaster with no additional treatment, giving the folds their texture and colour. The same folded-plane language runs through partition walls, backdrops, and display setups, creating a sense of enclosure without building actual walls. A bare, exposed ceiling reveals the structure's original geometry, while the staircase — stripped to its raw metal frame — is softened by a single sweeping ferrocement curve with a wooden handrail, linking every level of the store.
