A city oasis — Rothko above, a Tree of Life below.
Magnolia is designed to feel like a lush oasis within the garden city, with the larger areas of the home dedicated to outdoor space — two decks on the lower level and two more above. The couple resides on the lower floor, with a living room, dining room, and two bedrooms opening onto their decks, while the son occupies the upper level. A neutral palette blends with the texture of sandstone, fabric, and cement throughout, keeping the space serene, quiet, and in deliberate contrast to its surroundings. The upper level draws from Mark Rothko's style, with pigmented cement flooring and muted-coloured walls acting as canvas for art — including a hand-drawn bark cross-section by artist Ashu Gupta in her signature stippling technique.
